Cebu City and Surrounding Areas
![]() Magellan's Cross. This was the original cross brought by Fernando Magallanes (Ferdinand Magellan) to the Philippines in 1521. What you see here is actually the cross that has been encased inside wood planks to preserve it. |
![]() At the Santo Nino Basilica. This was the ORIGINAL Santo Nino said to have survived a terrible fire in the 1800s. Hence, the dark like complexion of the face. When we visited, there was a line of people that wrapped around the church, waiting their turn to reach this point, to pray. We were allowed to 'jump' the line since we had a tour guide and were considered 'foreign tourists'. |
![]() At the Taoist Chinese temple in 'Beverly Hills' Cebu. As you may have guessed, 'Beverly Hills' Cebu is where Cebu's elite live. Mansions, swimming pools, Mercedes Benzes, high fences. Get the picture? |
![]() The Lapu Lapu shrine. This was the spot where Datu Lapu Lapu killed 15th century portugese navigator, Ferdinand Magellan. In the picture from left to right is Sean, Emily, Erika, Tito Renato (our uncle who lives in Cebu) and Ben. |
